Back when Domino first started arriving in the mail I began saving the eye candy and renovating tips.

With the magazine now gone it’s not as fun but I still keep adding to the “dream house” file with others like Living, etc. This file is now huge and the first source for ideas for the bathroom renovation!

The is also my library during the semester at Parsons when taking classes like Interior Rendering.
I can trace pictures and practice watercolor and shading techniques until it resembles the real thing.

NYC restaurant tables are famously small and wobbly but I’ve never cared as long as the food is good. Now that I’m cooking more meals at home, the dining table has come under some scrutiny. It’s now wobbling and every so often is the source of injury to the leg.

The search for a replacement hasn’t produced a winner. It’s been hard to find a table for four (with an extension to fit six) that isn’t too big when closed or fully extended.

Dear Pottery Barn, IKEA and Crate and Barrel, etc: What is up with the oversized, ornate tables too big for a standard apartment? Also, what happened to the real, sustainable materials that make a table sturdy? Is MDF all you have? Do a better job. Yours truly.

I’m partial to round/oval shapes since I think it would soften up the space which already has lots of long lines and rectangle pieces. Room and Board has had an interesting custom design option but the wood grain is either too light or too dark for my taste.

Their Kyoto table seems to be the lead contender right now and I think it’s a good compliment for the Bertoia chairs.

It’s Small Cool month again over at AT only now “small” is 1,200 square feet or less.

I submitted an entry of my old, teeny tiny NYC apartment three years ago. Looking back it’s funny to read some of the comments like this one..

“Would be nice to have more pictures.. get more of a feel for the *whole* space”.

Yes, space. Minus the boring bathroom, that was the whole space.

In some ways the six floor walk-up (yes, I was on the 6th floor) had many pluses. Besides having a cute wine bar across the street, I loved having a window in every room.

Here now are the rusty and too old too open windows that need a cleaning.

Cozy. Warm. Soft. Almost everyone agrees that’s what they want in a couch. But curved or straight lines ? High or low back? Modern or traditional? It’s hard to find the right one.

Here are some decent choices that I tend to gravitate to. Solid colors, 1-2 seat cushions, soft but not bulky, with fine detail (piping, buttons, hardwood legs).

I love kitchens where cabinets are not the main focus. Kiss the cook that can keep their space this clean and simple. Limit yourself to five or less multi-purpose pot/pans and use your bowls to serve breakfast and dinner.
